Welcome,

My name is Cassandra, and I was born in Massachusetts, where my passion for reading and writing ignited at an early age. In the mid-1980s, my grandmother gifted me my first journal, which quickly became a treasure trove filled with curiosities, poetry, and whimsical sketches of the world around me. Alongside a love for creating art and penning my thoughts, I have always found joy in the earth's flora and fauna. As a Sagittarius with Taurus rising, my guiding principals are creativity, healing, adventure, and higher learning. There is a unique power in self-expression through the arts—a catalyst for inspiration that reverberates far and wide.

Throughout my life, I have lived and worked in places such as California, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Australia, which transformed my artistic practice. Fascinated by the support art offers communities, I began to study its healing properties in the face of societal challenges. The vibrant strokes of a mural can breathe new life into a disillusioned neighborhood, while the act of reclaiming cultural voices can invigorate and unite communities. This realization propelled me into my current work with arts organizations and educational institutions. I identify as a visionary, skilled at nurturing the connection between artists, funders, and the communities they serve. Much of this transformative process begins with how we articulate our stories, resulting in better outcomes, successful grant narratives, and cohesive branding.

Additionally, I have a background in holistic healing arts. I am a certified birth doula and massage practitioner. For ten years, this was my primary career, and I learned so much about the human body, families, and reproductive rights. I utilize these insights in my coaching and writing, helping clients develop language for their birth plans and holistic healing goals. I have also served as an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and gender-based violence. I facilitate safe spaces through topic-related writing support groups and weekend retreats, allowing individuals and groups to explore their inner feelings, thoughts and emotions, and learn to express them creatively.

Creative practice serves as a vehicle for self-reflection and transformation. Creative writing, in particular, has the remarkable ability to illuminate areas of life that were once cloaked in shadows. The act of incorporating metaphor, analogy, and other poetic devices to any piece of writing is a means to foster collective understanding and a sense of interconnectedness. In fact, the universe is rife with metaphor and symbolism. When we observe and record these repeating patterns we make meaning for ourselves and others—examples of this can be found in poetry, but also in astrology, philosophy, metaphysics, and indigenous storytelling.

This writing journey has been the most consistent thoroughfare of my life, inspiring me to pursue it further in graduate school and as a career. I am eager to assist you on your journey of growth and creative self-discovery!

My books

In 2019, I had the honor of being contracted to illustrate "Basho’s Haiku Journeys," a biographical children’s picture book that brings to life the world of Matsuo Basho, the renowned poet of Japan's Edo period. Authored by Freeman Ng and published by Stone Bridge Press, this book showcases the haiku form of and immerses young readers in a rich cultural experience. I take great pride in its recognition as a recipient of the 2021 Northern Lights Book Award and its positive review from Kirkus Reviews, one of the most respected book review organizations in the literary world. The journey of illustrating this book with hand-painted scenes was rewarding, making Basho's poetic journey accessible to a new generation.

In 2021, I published my first poetry collection, Hot Thicket (Black Lawrence Press), a culmination of a lifelong dream. Hot Thicket provides a contemplative exploration of interpersonal and societal wildfires, where truth emerges delicately through tender botanical imagery, with the intricate networks of mycelium symbolizing our capacity to feel and heal even the most challenging patterns.

At present, I am in the process of writing my third book, a lyric essay that focuses on intergenerational trauma and the journey toward recovery.
